The Leisure Program is comprised of approximately 8-10 consumers. Staffing this program are two experienced and seasoned staff: Nick Lampariello and Freida Zurendorf. Nick, comes with over a decade of experience working with the developmentally disabled adult population and offers countless ties to the community. Freida, formerly in charge of the office cleaning crew, will bring her ideas and enthusiasm to this new endeavor.
The primary purpose of the Leisure Program is to better serve Lifestyles older, more senior consumers on a daily basis. These elder consumers are expressing a desire to participate more in recreational alternatives within the local community during their day program rather than in Lifestyles traditional work related environments. Other, younger consumers may be considered potential candidates for the program as well, based on both Lifestyles staff recommendations and each individual consumer’s expressed desire for more recreational activities.
The Leisure Program takes place between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm. A sampling of the Leisure Club’s recreational activities will include on a rotating basis: ceramics classes, fitness classes, bowling, swimming, animal therapy at the Staten Island Rodeo, volunteer work at the Seaview Nursing Home, seeing movies, visiting parks, cultural trips, and more. The majority of these recreational activities will be held at various venues throughout the Staten Island community and in special cases, thesurrounding boroughs as well. The Leisure Program will help consumers achieve greater independence in areas of socialization, community awareness and safety skills.
